In a manuscript with almost 100 references that I have been managing with EndNote without problems for a long time, all those references now seem to be plain text. The EndNote tab is also greyed out, and I cannot click the buttons. Through the EndNote add-in, I can still insert references, but these do not correspond to the references already present in the text.

The problem can relate to Word compatibility. In the collaboration, there may have been differences. The text from the submitted file was copied as plain text (unformatted – indicated by the “A” symbol). After that, the text could be edited again without text boxes.
