The Sync option in EndNote is very helpful.
It lets you work on your library from different computers and your tablet. You can also share your library with others.
In EndNote, “sync” means to keep your library data updated and the same across different devices and online. For example, if you add or change a reference on your laptop, the change will also appear on your other computer, phone, or in your online EndNote account.
Syncing helps you keep your EndNote library the same and up-to-date everywhere.
In other words: your data is automatically kept the same everywhere.
First, you need to create an EndNote Online account.
How to make an EndNote Online account:
Go to the top bar and click Edit > Preferences > Sync
Sign up for an account
Click Submit. You will see a screen asking for your personal information and a license agreement
Fill in the details and click I Agree
Choose which library you want to share
Important:
You can only sync and share one library.
It is hard to change this later, so choose carefully.
If you try to sync a different library than before, they will be combined.
Now you can sync your library with other computers or tablets and share it with others. You can also use your EndNote library online.
To invite others, click the Invite others button and enter their email addresses.
How to join a library shared with you:
Create an EndNote Online account and connect it to your EndNote desktop.
In Preferences, go to Sync and log in or create a new account.
When connected, go to File > Open Shared Library to open the shared library.
Warnings from Clarivate:
- Its not recommended to members of the shared library to use the Save a Copy command or Compressed Library
- The copy or compressed version retains the shared library association and can only be opened by a shared library member.
- Any changes made to the copy or compressed version will sync back to the owner and all members.
