EndNote 2025

EndNote is installed on your computer, but you cannot see the EndNote tab in Word.

The Endnote tab in Word is not working. The EndNote tab is visible in Word, but the commands are not available (greyed out).

Possible causes:

• The add-in is present, but not linked to an active library.

• Word was opened before EndNote was active.

Possible solutions:

1. Close both Word and EndNote

2. Launch EndNote first

3. Open the desired library

4. Restart Word

5. If you did open Word (EndNote) and can not see the EndNote tab, follow next steps to reinstall the plugin:

Restore the EndNote toolbar in Word

• Open Word
• Click on the File tab in the left-hand corner
• Click Options in the menu
• When the Word Options window opens, click on Add-Ins in the left-hand column.
• In the Manage drop-down menu (bottom of main panel), select Disabled Items and click on the Go button.
• The EndNote add-in will show up as Add in: EndNote Cite While You Write (EndNote cwyw.dll)
• Highlight the EndNote add-in and select Enable
• Close the Disabled Items window
• At the bottom of the Word Options window, click OK.
• Close and re-open Word.

Contact the ICT service desk to request a reset of Word, as this is a technical issue that the medical library unfortunately cannot resolve.
